This was a project and patent that came from spending a day with some insurance adjusters.
The only way to be truly innovative is to empathize with the users (all users in the flow)!  You have to walk a mile in their shoes!  There is no "Idea Fairy" that taps you on the shoulder and gives you ideas!  You must talk to your users and learn as a child!
Problem:
It takes years to become a proper insurance adjuster, the knowledge of how force and velocity effect how a car is crashed is an art form, then to be able to  put a price on it takes years.
Hypothesis:
How do we simplify the process and use our extensive data lake to solve this issue?  And how can we give this technology to Drivers so they can submit small claims quickly?
Solution:
At Solera our backbone drives the back-end insurance claims process, therefore we have all the know data on crashes, the direction, angles, speeds, other vehicles involved, therefore using AI (Artificial Intelligence) and Machine Learning, I came up with a tool that the adjuster could go to the site, pull up a 3D image of the car in question, take a series of images of the car, then using photogrammetry, overlay the damage on the vehicle.  The adjuster can use tools in the app to add information about the crash data, then our AI would assess the damage and give an estimate.  We also created a OBDII device that if used in the vehicle would record the dynamics of the crash (speed, force, and directions), if the driver had installed this device it would greatly enhance the accuracy of the estimate.
Our Estimates where 93% accurate!
